Lisa Cholodenko Wins Spirit Award

Cholodenko was awarded Best Screenplay at the 2011 Independent Spirit Awards on February 26th. The Kids Are All Right was nominated for five other Spirit Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. The film has had a very strong run this awards season, picking up two Golden Globes, one for Best Actress (Musical or Comedy) for Annette Bening and one for Best Picture (Musical or Comedy). The Kids Are All Right was also nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay.
The Independent Spirit Awards, founded in 1984, are held annually to recognize the best in independent film and filmmakers. This year's nominees for best feature were 127 Hours, Black Swan, Greenberg, The Kids Are All Right, and Winter's Bone.
Cholodenko graduated from Columbia's School of the Arts with an MFA in Film in 1997. Cholodenko was the first ever CUFF Andrew Sarris Award recipient in 2001, following her success with the 1998 feature film High Art.
