June 2008
Dear Reader,
We are pleased to present the 2008 Columbia University School of the Arts Film Division Script Bank, a compendium of loglines for feature film scripts written by advanced Columbia screenwriters.
Our world-renowned program focuses on the art of narrative filmmaking in a uniquely integrated curriculum of screenwriting, directing and producing. At Columbia, story comes first in all we do, and that philosophy is perhaps reflected most in the fresh batch of unique, personal and exquisitely-crafted screenplays our students produce each year. In fact, many successful feature films began life as Columbia screenplays, including Mr. and Mrs. Smith by Simon Kinberg; Monsoon Wedding by Sabrina Dhawan; High Art by Lisa Cholodenko; Vanaja by Rajnesh Domalpalli; La Misma Luna (Under the Same Moon) by Patricia Riggen; Boys Don't Cry by Kimbery Peirce and Andy Bienen; Padre Nuestro by Christopher Zalla; and Off The Black by James Ponsoldt.
We invite you to explore the wide range of quality work in this year's Script Bank. If you have interest in any of the scripts or writers, please contact the individual screenwriters directly. You can also find an electronic version of the Script Bank at our website at: http://arts.columbia.edu/film
We also hope you will take the opportunity to learn more about the program beyond the work in these pages. For more information about us and to find out how to make connections with our talented filmmakers, please feel free to contact our office.
