Please RSVP to 212.854.1547. | About the Program | Columbia University’s Graduate Film Division in the School of the Arts, one of the nation’s leading academic training programs for filmmaking, presents the 18th Annual Columbia University Film Festival, a weeklong festival of new work -- film screenings and screenplay readings. The festival will take place from May 1st to May 8th in New York City. A selection of films will be presented in Los Angeles June 7th to 9th. The Columbia University Film Festival has earned an international reputation as a launching pad for emerging talent. Columbia Film Division students have won top Student Academy Award Medals in seven out of the last eight years. Films from the 2004 Columbia Festival went on to screen at prestigious international festivals including: Berlin, Cannes, New York, Palm Springs, Sundance and Telluride. Recent films by Film Division alumni include Mr. and Mrs. Smith, written by Simon Kinberg ('03), Cold Mountain, produced by Albert Berger ('83), P.S., produced by Jeff Sharp ('01), Ladder 49, directed by Jay Russell ('85), Laurel Canyon, written and directed by Lisa Cholodenko (’97); Identity, directed by James Mangold (’99); Monsoon Wedding, written by Sabrina Dhawan (’02); and 2004 Academy Award nominee and winner of the 2003 Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival, American Splendor, written and directed by Shari Springer Berman (’95) and Robert Pulcini (’94). | | Films selected by the School of the Arts Film Division faculty as the best of this year’s festival will be featured at a special screening in New York City on May 8th at 6:00pm at Symphony Space. Staged readings of excerpts from feature screenplays written by graduate students at Columbia University’s School of the Arts Film Division will be held on Friday May 6th at 6:00pm at the McGraw-Hill Theater, 1221 Avenue of the Americas (at 49th Street). The Festival is pleased to offer Industry Screenings of Faculty Selects and Faculty Honors films in New York and Los Angeles. The New York Industry Screening will take place on Wednesday May 25th at 12:00pm at the Eastman Kodak Screening Room, 360 West 31st. Street, 7th. Floor (between 8th. and 9th. Avenue). The Los Angeles Industry Screening will take place on Tuesday June 7th at 12:00pm at the Eastman Kodak Screening Room, 6700 Santa Monica Boulevard.
