Students Alumni Faculty 2001
First Prize for best short film at the 2002 Sundance
Festival for Gasline, directed by Dave Silver, which premiered
at the 2001 Columbia festival.
The Golden Lion at the 2001 Venice International Film Festival,
for Monsoon Wedding, directed by Columbia film adjunct professor
Mira Nair, (Mississippi Masala, Salaam Bombay!) and
written by Columbia film division student Sabrina Dhawan. Sabrina
Dhawans film Sanjiih, As Night Falls was an award winner
at the 2000 Columbia festival and won grand prize at the 2000 Palm
Springs International Film Festival. Monsoon Wedding was
also recently nominated for both a Golden Globe and a BAFTA award.
First Prize in the narrative film category at the 2001 Student Academy
Awards for Zen and the Art of Landscaping, directed by David
Kartch, which premiered at the 2000 festival.
Third place in the Drama category at the 2002 Academy of Television
Arts and Sciences Student Awards, for Dos Mas, directed by
Elias Leon Siminiani, which premiered at the 2001 festival.
